Review of Desperation by Stephen King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Desperation is another of King's books that I've had on my shelf for a long time. I finally got around to reading it this year and was glad that I did. The characters were engaging and the plot sped along happily for 719 pages. King pulled the story together thread by thread, like an old pro pulling on their socks. Experience is everything for authors and Stephen King shows his wealth of experience on every page.

For those who criticise King's contribution to literature, I think that they miss the point. King is not encumbered by the need to impress, or the desire to layer fancy language across the page. His strengths are his simplicity of phrase, his engaging, fully formed characters, and his well rounded abilities in story telling. He sticks to what he is good at, and it's always a pleasure to curl up with one of his novels in my hand.
